A vacant space under a set of stairs can easily be transformed into a reading area with the addition of an armchair, and little else. It's a simple, cost-effective change - no shelving, carpeting and so on necessary. You just need to fit in with the colour scheme of your hall.
If you trawl through the enormous array of different styles that the various manufacturers, you may notice that most armchairs seem to lack in originality. The problem with many designers is they seem to forget people have to sit in the chairs and it's the act of sitting that inspires the design of the chair... not the other way around. Furthermore, the armchair is designed to be sat in with comfort in mind: where backs, buttocks and arms should be supported ergonomically to take the pressure off the muscles across the shoulders and lower neck.
There are some lovely styles of armchairs, in a huge range of colours and materials. As stated earlier, leather is a very popular choice. It is hard wearing, looks good and is very comfortable. Leather may not be what you want, but don't worry; there are plenty of different upholstery styles and types. The choice of colour is endless, funky, traditional, cottage, chintz and everything in between. Whatever you eventually decide on, choose a style that fits your other furniture and room.
When buying your leather armchair be sure to purchase the matching couch and love seat that will look great with it. But just the arm chair is a great accessory for the living room if you don't want to purchase the whole set. You can purchase just the chair rather then the couch to go with other pieces of furniture with a number of colors being available to match and coordinate in any kind of living room or den in your home.
