In the Victorian era, it was a big furniture placed in the living room where men relaxed and their wives sat on chairs doing some needlework. During the 19th century, this sofa was associated with Freudian psychoanalysis. The reason behind this is that Sigmund Freud used this sofa for hypnosis sessions with his patients. However, two centuries later we can find them in common places like the local coffee house or wine bars.
Image can really be everything, and if you would like to enhance your own image, at work, at home, or both, then a new set of leather chesterfield sofas and chairs is the ideal way to do it. Leather chesterfields do not cost as much as they used to, so you will not have to spend a fortune on your set, and yet they still look like a million dollars in your home or office.
It was named as Chesterfield in the honour of Philip Dormer Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield in the 18th century. In fact, it has this small piece of story of how it originated. The Earl had requested his cabinetmaker to create a piece which allowed men to sit in an upright position and still feel very comfortable, and thus Chesterfield sofas were created. And it got its design also from those times. No wonder the buttoned up upholstery, equal sized back, rolled arms of equal height and the nail head trim reminds us of royalty.
The chairs contain a very thick padded seat but when compared to the Victorian chairs that have the same design they are less padded. The chairs are now more common in homes and offices.
